Students must have an A average to be considered for membership. Mr. Wilkie will look at your grades for the previous school year and if your grades are a 4.0, you will be invited to apply.
Application
Once you have been invited to apply, you will fill out and return the application. A panel of teachers will read your application and determine your eligibility for the John C Stennis chapter of National Honor Society.
Acceptance
If you are selected for acceptance, you will be notified via letter at end of September. You will also be required to attend a meeting to discuss membership requirements and induction.
Induction
Following attendance at the new members meeting, students will be inducted into the chapter in an evening ceremony. All family will be invited to attend.
Requirements
National Honor Society is open to students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades who meet the following four requirements for membership:
Scholarship: For entrance into NHS, a student must have earned an overall grade average for two consecutive semesters of a 90.0 with no grade below a 90.0. To maintain membership, a student must earn an overall semester average of 90.0. Students must complete academic courses which will qualify them to be recognized as an Honor Graduate. (Advanced/Honors classes may be weighted by 4 points.)
Leadership: Members of NHS must exhibit responsibility and initiative. Members should be students who exercise positive influence on peers that upholds NHS and school ideals.
Character: NHS members must display outstanding character in all aspects of home, school, and community life.
Service: Members of NHS must commit themselves as active members by participating in club-sponsored activities. Service is evaluated by a system of participation points.
